I’ve Been Tagged!

May 31st, 2009 by Linda Smith

I've been tagged!

… by two wonderfully creative ladies who are my friends in doll making, Marcie Hart and Vania Cruz-Perez. Marcie creates the most colorful and delightful little fairies and Vania makes the loveliest little feminine witches. Please take a moment to pay a visit to each of the talented ladies!

Okay, the rules for the tag are…

1- Name and link back to the person who tagged you.
2- List six things 6 (un) important things that make you happy.
3- Tag 6 bloggers and let them know they’re it by leaving them a comment on their blog.

The 6 (un) important things that make me happy are:
1- Time with my grand-daughter and hearing her call me “Mimi”
2- Playtime and groups hugs with my three little Pomeranian girls
3- Creative time
4- The scent of cinnamon
5- The color of pumpkin spice/rust
6- Watching old Jerry Lewis movies

This is left as an open invitation to any of my visitors who would like to play along. Feel free to pick up the tag and share with your friends. Have fun playing!

WIP: Albino Faerie

May 8th, 2009 by Linda Smith

Another little fairy is in the making! I’ve made my armature from wire and brass tubing (shown in first photo) to increase the strength for the limbs. These really go together quite easy, it takes a bit of time to do the measuring to get them equal on each side, but the efforts are well worth it.

In my experimenting with using brass tubing, I learned a little something I’d like to share with my fellow dollmakers. I found if I let the brass sit too long with raw polymer, the tubing will cause the raw polymer to take on a blue/green cast around it. No one wants little blue/green stained fairies, unless that’s the look you’re going for! :)

I don’t always bake right away, so what I did was to lightly coat the brass with a bit of Gesso, and it seems to be effective in creating a barrier between the raw polymer and the brass. I’ve done this on several pieces lately and I’m pleased with how it’s helped me.

This little one is an Albino Faerie and is being created as a special request. She’ll have full wavy white hair with delicate pale features, being 8-9″-tall. More photos will be posted as she progresses.

The little Albino Faerie is fully complete, and I’m fairly pleased with her outcome. She has a dreamy and serene expression, which I don’t know that I was able to fully capture it in the photos. For viewing pleasure, more photos can be seen on the main website within the gallery…

Miss Polly & Her Dollie

Why the long face little Miss Polly?
Oh no, dear me…
A boo-boo has befallen her little Dollie!

Little Miss Polly is a little different from my normal “pretty in pink” variety. Using a different color palette of ivory and black has given her a Victorian Goth feel and look. I’d really like to explore this color combination more in future pieces.

I’m pleased to announce that LSO has listed its first Art Dolls in FuzzB’s Marketplace! To find all available offerings from me just keyword search LSO for Linda Smith Originals. I’ll always be found in the “OOAK DOLLS” section of the marketplace!

Little Miss Polly is available in my Etsy Shop or FuzzB Shop. Many more photos for all to enjoy can be seen HERE

Dancing Fall Faerie is also available within my Etsy Shop and FuzzB Shop too! While there be sure to check her out too!

WIP: Project Updates

April 21st, 2009 by Linda Smith

Just a bit of an update on a few projects that are in progress at the moment.

Earlier in the year I’d created an assembly line of little soft bodies, making a stash of about ten of them. Now they’re all in need of heads, hands and feet! So I started on a new little girl which will be done in a couple of days from now. She’ll be placed up as an offering, perhaps she’ll be available by the weekend. I adore the little pouty face on this one!

And below is the progress on the “Nutty Professor.” He’s had one application of paint to his face and hands, and is ready for another. I generally apply the coloring in very light layers, to gradually bring up the coloring in the face, using Genesis Heat Set Oils. He still has a bit more to go yet, but there’s no rush in getting him done. This is my pet project at the moment….absolutely loving this one!
